Coal Valley, Illinois Deacon Robert Leo "Bob" Zimmerman, 62, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. A Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the church, followed by a time of sharing for family and friends. Memorials may be made to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, where he was a member, for a memorial to be established in his name. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is assisting the family. Bob was born June 14, 1942, in Ward Springs, Minnesota, the son of Gregor and Fern (Sanders) Zimmerman. He married Mari Lou Sankey on September 23, 1961, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He held various positions at Deere and Company over a period of 30 years, retiring in December, 1993. Bob was ordained into the Permanent Diaconate in May, 1992. In 2001, Bob and Mari were recognized by the Peoria Diocese with the Pere Marquette Award for over 30 years of dedicated service to their church family. Bob is survived by his wife, Mari; four children and their spouses, Julia and Michael Carroll of Dayton, Ohio, Daniel and Mary Zimmerman of Springfield, Missouri, Christopher and Juliann Zimmerman of Moline, and Douglas and Pamela Zimmerman of St. Paul, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, Michael, Megan and Ashley Carroll, Kasha, Isaac, and Matthew Zimmerman, Noah and Isabel Zimmerman, and Katie and Andrew Zimmerman; and four siblings and their spouses, Duane and LaVonne Zimmerman of Urbandale, Iowa, Donavon and Faye Zimmerman of Spencer, Wisconsin, Marian and Robert McKee of Marshalltown, Iowa, and James and Bonita Zimmerman of Sweet Springs, Missouri.
