Dawn L. Turkal, 78, of Rapids City, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 1, 2024, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center.
A service to celebrate her life is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, at First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, with Dr. Andrew McDonald officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, at Trimble Funeral Home,1700 1st Street, Coal Valley. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory following the visitation.
The former Dawn Lynnette DeShane was born August 22, 1946, in Moline, Illinois, to Harry and Eunice (Stone) DeShane. She graduated from Orion High School in 1964. She married John Turkal on February 5, 1966. She worked for Illini Hospital and cared for many children. Dawn lived life looking at the positives and being kind to people. She always had a smile or gift to share, and was a stranger to no one. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandsons, and enjoyed being part of her church community. Dawn had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and caring way.
She is survived by her husband, John, 2 daughters, Lynn Steffen (Greg) of Land O’ Lakes, FL, and Kari Turkal-Barrett (Gary) of Knoxville, TN, and 2 sons Robert Turkal (Leona) of Walcott, IA and Thomas Turkal (Mary) of Tucson, AZ, 3 grandsons, James Turkal (Kara) of Rapids City, IL, Robert and Rudy of Tucson, AZ. As well as 3 brothers, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
