David S. Rubitsky, MBE, 96, of East Moline, Illinois, a decorated Veteran of WW II, died Friday, June 28, 2013, in Forest Hill Health and Rehab Center, East Moline.
Graveside services are 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by Moline American Legion and the Patriot Guard. Those wishing to attend should meet at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, at 9:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
He was born January 29, 1917, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, to Jacob Frederick and Bertha Friedman Rubitsky.
Sgt. Rubitsky served honorably in the U. S. Army during WW II, fought in the New Guinea campaign in the 128th Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division, and earned a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was recommended for the Medal of Honor and granted the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II. Following the war, he served in the Merchant Marines for many years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Julie Rubitsky of Geneseo.
