Staff Sergeant David Ogburn, U.S. Army (Ret), 80, of Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A funeral luncheon will follow in CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe.
David was buried with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 9, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
He was born Oct. 14, 1935, in Rock Island, Illinois, to the late Everett and Mary (Walker) Ogburn. He attended Coal Valley schools, was a longtime Moline resident, and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal. He married Sharon Smith on June 30, 1961, in Denver, Colorado.
David served his country honorably in the United States Army, served two tours in Vietnam, and retired as a staff sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. David also worked as a fire chief and household goods inspector. Some of his passions included fishing, antiquing at flea markets, his pets, traveling, driving and enjoying his time with friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sharon; four daughters, Teresa LaGrave, Sherry Scharer, Carolyn Gustafson and Christina Morley; stepmother, Norma Ogburn; siblings, Marcella, Phyllis, William, Gary and Calvin; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren and family; and his best friend, Shultz Bellmeyer of Moline.
