Coal Valley, Illinois David Joseph Metternick, 62, of Avon Park, Florida, formerly of Coal Valley, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in his home. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church, 106 N. Butler Avenue, Avon Park, Florida 33825. David was born August 14, 1941, in Moline, the son of Joseph and Loucille (Harmon) Metternick. He married Carolyn Dawson on June 4, 1960 in Pontiac, Michigan. He served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Wadleigh. He and Carolyn moved to Avon Park from Coal Valley in 1995. He was employed as a machine operator at Case IH. He was president of the Knoll Homeowners Association, and a member of Union Congregational Church in Avon Park. He loved NASCAR racing, and wood working projects. David is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Luanne Fausett of Midlothian, Texas, and Sheri Metternick-Jones and her husband Mark of Burekup, Western Australia; eight grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Karen Chadwick of Gravitt, Arkansas, and Randal Metternick of Moline; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Lori Dawson of White Lake, Michigan, and Gary and Adrianne Dawson of Pontiac, Michigan, and special nieces and nephews.
