David A. Circello, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in his home.
Private burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
David Augestine Circello was born in Moline, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. While in Viet Nam, he was shot by an AK-47, hit a mine that blew his right eardrum out, took three ounces of shrapnel, and burned over one-quarter of his body. Among numerous others, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and a Purple Heart.
Dave worked for the Rock Island Post office for over 20 years. He often teased his co-workers by saying, "this is my post office, too!" He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Dave is survived by his mother, Alice Circello of Rock Island; sons and a daughter-in-law, Adam Circello and Luke Circello, both of Rock Island, and Matthew and Stacey Circello of Colona, Illinois; a daughter, Joy Circello of Davenport, Iowa; grandsons, Addison, Nolan and Caleb; and a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Nancy Circello of Milan, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his best friend, Wrinkles.
