Coal Valley, Illinois Darwin K. Stephens, 70, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the church. Darwin Keith Stephens was born March 24, 1933, in Cambridge, the son of Denzel Arthur and Myrtle Loretta (Garrison) Stephens. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1951 and received a certificate in electronics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in the U. S. Navy Seabees from 1951 to 1956, and helped build the Naval Base on Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. He married Joyce Doye in May 14, 1954, in Cable, Illinois. He was an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He previously worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Co. for 10 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, and enjoyed computers, electrical and wood working, and Iowa Hawkeye Basketball. Darwin is survived by his wife, Joyce; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dave Belville of Silvis; a son, Richard Stephens of Covina, California; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Eilene Stephens of Rock Island; a daughter-in-law, Janet Stephens of Eagan, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Heather Lodico and her husband Josh, Tim Benson, Kimberly Stephens, Kenny Stephens, Marie Kaalberg, Mike Belville, and Bob Belville; a great-grandson, Alex Kaalberg; his step-mother, Josephine Stephens of Cambridge; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Roger and Claudette Stephens of Richland, Washington, and Carol Stephens of Washington, Iowa.
