Darrell L. Melton, 67, of East Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 25, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Rev. Tanner Payton officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the family to be used to plant trees and flowers in Darrell’s memory.
Darrell Lee Melton was born May 29, 1957, in Saxton, Mississippi, the son of Johnnie and Odessa (Tucker) Melton. He enjoyed working as a toll booth worker on the Centennial Bridge for many years up until its closing. In more recent years, he worked for Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island as a groundskeeper.
He had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time in his garden. He also loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, and putzing around the golf course.
Darrell is survived by four children, Robert and Melissa Melton of Moline, Edward and Amber Case of Andalusia, Illinois, Jessie Melton of Davenport, and Jodie and John Beard of Moline; grandchildren, Kaileigh and Chase Melton, Deak Reynolds, Jr., Rachael (Kyle) Kuhlman, Caitlin Stotts, Sam and Debbie Jo Melton, Devin Melton, and Shyla and Shayleen Beard; great-grandchildren, Amberly and Kenna Kuhlman, Bryson Beckhart, and Naomi Melton; siblings, Gary and Gail Melton of Rock Island, Lesa Ernst of Moline, Phyllis Bell of Moline, and Jeannette and Craig Porter of Indiana; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Dick Ernst.
