Dan Breitenstein, 68, of Coal Valley, died Friday, December 10, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services are 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 14, 2004 in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with the Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Committal will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund that will be established. Daniel Arthur Breitenstein was born August 12, 1936 in Moline, Illinois the son of Homer and Sara (Sturgeon) Breitenstein. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1956. Dan married the former Nancy Foster on August 2, 1957 in Rock Island. He was employed as a welder at the Case IH plant in East Moline, retiring in 1991 after 30 years. Dan was a member of the UAW Local 1304 where he served as a steward and committeeman, and the Milan American Legion Post 569. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and most of all his grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island. Survivors include; Nancy his wife of 47 years; three children and their spouses, Deborah and Bob Jacobsen of East Moline, Daniel and Kelly Breitenstein of West Branch, Iowa, and Barb and Mark Weir of Coal Valley; eight grandchildren, Mark Jacobsen, Robby Jacobsen both of East Moline, Jason Breitenstein, Jennifer Breitenstein, Aimee Ray, and Shaun Ray all of West Branch, Iowa, and Logan Weir, and Erik Weir, both of Coal Valley; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Kespohl, and Austin Kespohl, both of Colona; two sisters, Elsie VanDeGejuchte of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Ethel and Don, of Rock Island.
