Dale J. Langel

Dale J. Langel, 65, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at home.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, with Father Anthony Ego officiating. A Prayer Service is 4:00 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, immediately followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Dale’s memory for cancer research. 

Dale John Langel was born February 22, 1959, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Elmer and Mary Jean (Heiderscheit) Langel. He graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to marry the love of his life, Lori Lundy, on October 19, 1985, in Rock Island, Illinois. 

He worked for Johnson Contracting Company in East Moline for over 38 years, retiring when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. Along with his wife, Dale owned The Kids Corner in Coal Valley. He was an active member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley and Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 91.

Dale enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be snowmobiling, biking, camping, kayaking or playing volleyball. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Dale, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Lori; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimber (Adam) Diederich of Orion, and Katie (Sam) Sothmann of Coal Valley; four grandchildren, Karsyn and Kolby Diederich, and Maeve and Jack Sothmann; siblings, David Langel of Rock Island, Judy Edwards of Silvis, and Jeanie Swanson of Milan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joyce (Chuck) Bahrs.
