Gene D. Miller, 82, of the Fort Armstrong, Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, January 18, 2013, in his home.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Visitation is 10:00 until service time Monday. Burial will take place at a later date at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, where he was a member.
Gene Douglas Miller was born January 30, 1930, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Marshall James and Faye Loretta (Kaskadden) Miller. He married Joanne V. ?Jodie? Hufford on December 8, 1950, in Moline. She died October 9, 1966.
He worked for International Harvester East Moline Works for 30 years as a clerk in the steel shed, retiring in 1978. After retiring, he was a bartender at Fleetwood Tap in Coal Valley for 20 years.
He was a member of the Coal Valley Lions Club, and a 50-year member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge.
Gene is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Tom Giese of Rock Island, and several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Oldsen of DeWitte, Iowa, and Terry Phillis and Michael Phillis, both of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his wife, and a sister, Barbara Phillis.
