Ronald D. Halverson, 73, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, Illinois.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at St. John Lutheran Church, Owatonna, Minnesota, with The Reverend Dave Klawiter officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery with military honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, St. John Lutheran Church, Owatonna, or The American Lung Association. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Ronald Dean Halverson was born February 28, 1936, in Big Stone County, Minnesota, the son of Minnie (Arndt) and Arnold Halverson Sr. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1958, and married Joanne Kruckeberg on November 25, 1961. He was a maintenance repairman for John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 25 years, retiring in 1998. He previously worked at Josten?s in Owatonna, and Reserve Mining Company in Babbitt, Minnesota.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, and enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Joanne; three children and their spouses, Brenda Vogele of Naples, Florida, Sheryl and Jeff Hoepner of Mondovi, Wisconsin, and Jeff and Kerstin Halverson of Farmington, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Kevin and Erik Vogele, Iler and Avery Hoepner, and Kai and Ana Halverson; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Lanette Halverson of Arcadia, Louisiana, Bruce and Linda Halverson and Gary and Becky Halverson, all of Owatonna; and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Dale Machacek, June and Vernal Wilker, and Delores and Jeff Dusek, all of Owatonna, and Sandra and Vito DiNardo of Cohoes, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
