Cyriel ?Cy? DeKeukeleire, 81, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, October 30, 2008, in his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Mark Gehrke officiating. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park, accompanied by a Heavenly Heights Dove Release. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or Trinity Pathway Hospice.
Cyriel was born May 10, 1927, in Gent, Belgium, the son of Bernard and Germain (Vermeulen) DeKeukeleire. He married Cynthia Frahm Rathjen on January 15, 1989, in Port Byron, Illinois. Cy served in the Belgium Army in WW II. He came to the U.S. in 1956, and worked at John Deere Plow and Planter Works for 37 years. He was a member of UAW Local #434.
He enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his family. He played professional soccer in Belgium, enjoyed all sports, and loved his dog Bumma.
Cy is survived by his wife, Cindy, and their children, Anne Leslie Johanson, Carine and Leo Medina, Rick and Rosemary Rathjen, Ed Rathjen, and Loren and Lisa L. Rathjen; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Georgette and Marcel Regnard of Gent, Belgium.
