Colleen B. Rueth

February 10, 1941 — July 18, 2017

Colleen Beverly Rueth, 76, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in her home.

The former Colleen Beverly Erps was born February 10, 1941, in Sioux Falls, SD, a daughter of Marianne Knudsen Erps and Melvin Erps. Her family moved to Davenport in 1941, and she graduated from Davenport High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to George Rueth of Milan, IL, on June 10, 1961. They had two sons and two daughters.

Colleen spent most of her career with AT&T, starting as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. She retired after 27 years at the AT&T Atlanta branch where she opened the first internet sales office for small businesses. After retiring, she moved back to her hometown of Davenport, living only a mile from where she grew up. Her hobbies included reading, bicycling, and traveling to California and Chicago to visit her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her roses and other flowers, always having one of the prettiest yards in the neighborhood.

Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Colleen requested there be no memorial service, no flowers, and minimal tears shed on her behalf. Instead, remember her with a happy heart and a smile. Memorials may be made to the Colleen Rueth Memorial Fund in care of Trimble Funeral Home, 701 12th Street, Moline.

Colleen was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her warmth and kind heartedness resulted in everyone wanting to be her best friend.

Colleen is survived by her children, Rhonda and Mike Himley and grandsons Joshua and Jared Himley of Laguna Niguel, California, Randy and Jill Rueth and grandsons Jack and Tyler Rueth of Chicago, Illinois, Brenda Rueth of Chicago, Illinois; and Robert Rueth of Beverly Hills, California; her ex-husband and continued friend George Rueth of Milan, Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Debbie Erps of Conowingo, Maryland, and John and Louise Erps of Davenport; lifelong friend from grade school, Carole Cartee Walker of Davenport; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
