Christena M. Polton

Christena M. Polton, 72, of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at home, with her loving family by her side.

A gathering to celebrate Tena’s life will held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10 in the Starlight Ballroom at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, 2815 W Locust Street, Davenport, Iowa. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in her memory.

The former Christena Margaret Hawley was born August 26, 1952, in Davenport, the daughter of Robert and Ena (McDougall) Hawley. She graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1971 and went on to marry Jerry Mosenfelder. From their union came their pride and joy, daughters Angela and Melody. She later married James “Jim” Polton. She worked as an administrative assistant for several companies over the years.

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Davenport, and truly lived a life showing others compassion and kindness. She enjoyed horses in her younger years, taking part in parades with them for several years. She also loved stock and Nascar races, music of all kinds, and going to fairs and movies.

Above all else, family was the most important thing to Tena. She cherished every moment spent with her beloved daughters and grandchildren, and had a host of their friends that called her “Mom” and “Nana”, as she extended her love to them as well.

Tena is survived by her two daughters, Angela “Angie” Bitz of Anamosa, Iowa, and Melody Mosenfelder of Davenport; four grandchildren, Jacob and Alex Bitz, Alena Mosenfelder, and Zayden Teague; her brother, Stevie “Curly” Hawley of Davenport; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends including her closest friend since childhood, Alice Soppe, who was like a sister to Tena; and her treasured companions, dogs Milo and Otis. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Larry, Danny and Ronald Hawley.
