Charles E. Barnhouse, age 69, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died, Sunday, February 23, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, at 11:00 AM in Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery, Orion, Illinois, and memorials may be given to one's favorite charity.
Charles Edward Barnhouse was born April 1, 1933 in Rolla, Missouri, the son of Edward and Ruth (Hallstead) Barnhouse, and was raised in Mercer County, Illinois, attended Country School in rural Keithsburg, Illinois, and graduated from Keithsburg High School in 1951, and from Lincoln Barber College in East Moline, Illinois. He married his High School sweetheart, Agnes Reeder on July 2, 1955 in Keithsburg. He barbered in the Quad Cities area, Orion, Illinois, and owned and operated Chuck's Barber Shop in Coal Valley for many years. He also worked in various construction jobs, the Rock Island Millworks, and at Montgomery Elevator Company. He retired in 1994 from the Village of Coal Valley after working on the maintenance crew for over 20 years. After retirement he worked part-time at Indian Bluff Forest Preserve, mowing greens. He enjoyed playing golf, and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved gardening, his yard, and being outside. He will be remembered for his strength of character, his determination, and devotion to his children, grandchildren, and his loving wife of 47 years.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Agnes, a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Steve Thor of Orion; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Claire Barnhouse of Alexis, Illinois; three grandchildren, Sarah Thor, Matthew Thor, and Jaclyn Barnhouse; a sister, Beryl Crose of Aledo, Illinois, and a brother, Floyd Barnhouse of Winamac, Indiana. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gail Miller and Florence Nudo; two brothers, Verne and Carl Barnhouse; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Thor.
