Charles Downs

Charles Downs, 82, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in his home.

Visitation is 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 at Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion will present military honors. Friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe after the burial.  Memorials may be made to OSF Child Life Department, 530 NW Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61603.

Charles LaVerne Downs was born May 6, 1941, in Moline, to LaVerne and Margaret (Schubert) Downs. He served in the US Navy for 13 years, and then was a construction laborer in the Quad Cities.  He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed NASCAR and Indy Racing.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gary Wynn, a niece and her husband, Julie and Benjamin Baer, and a nephew and his wife, Gregory and Amanda Wynn, all of Washington, Illinois.
