Charles C. Ulfig, Jr., 90, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away Monday, July 24, 2018, at his daughter's home in Walled Lake, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, with Father Anthony Ego officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Care and Control.
Charles was born June 7, 1928, in Batavia, Illinois, to Charles Sr. and Jenny (Johnson) Ulfig. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois. He married Patricia J. Bradshaw on April 12, 1952, in Rock Island. She died March 9, 2008.
He worked for Victor Gasket Co., retiring as National Sales Manager in 1990. He was a member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge, Rock Island VFW Post #1303, and the University of Illinois Engineering Society. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, golfing, fishing, and cooking.
Charles is survived by three children, Ralph "Brad" (Ruth) Ulfig of Milan, Catherine "Cathi" (Carl) Fetzner of Walled Lake, and William (Helen) Ulfig of Moline; grandchildren, Brandon (Sheri) Ulfig of Taylor Ridge, Kayla Ulfig of Milan, Nicholas (Denise) Fetzner of Arizona, and Laura Fetzner, Heidi (Yuri) Pavlov, and Eric (Amber) Fetzner, all of Michigan; step-grandchildren, Jamie Claeys of Rock Island, Mandy Jochim of Florida, Ellen Clow of Coal Valley, Ed (Nancy) Clow of Chicago, Jami Clow of Coal Valley, and Tom (Barb) Clow of Georgia; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; a son, Charles Ulfig; and a brother, James Ulfig.
