Charles O. Allen, 90, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, September 16, 2024, at home.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, with Rev. Stacy Grau Christianson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or YouthHope.
Charles Ovid Allen was born May 28, 1934, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Lynn and Myrtle (Forsythe) Allen. He graduated from Rock Island High School and became a journeyman carpenter. He married Kay DeFrane on January 19, 1957, in Rock Island and served in the U.S. Army, during which time he and Kay spent a year and a half stationed in Fontainebleau, France.
He worked in telephone installation and repair spending most of his career at Illinois Bell Telephone Company. In retirement, he was self-employed in the same capacity.
Chuck was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. He devoted a lot of his time volunteering for Telephone Pioneers of America and Special Olympics, as well as numerous other organizations and causes over the years. He enjoyed fishing (belonging to QC InFisherman), hunting, woodworking (belonging to Quad Cities Woodturners), and golfing (He was proud to have taken 1st place in the telephone tournament with Jim Mosley).
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of over 67 years, Kay Allen; two children, Trevor (Regina) Allen of Constanta, New York, and Paige (Edward) Garrison of Eufaula, Alabama; three grandchildren, Christi Dealing of Stittville, New York, William (Katie) Allen of Lowville, New York, and Benjamin Allen of Rome, New York; great-grandchildren, Madison Dealing, Amelia and Charlie Allen, and Olivia, Blake, Ethan, and Nathaniel Allen; along with his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Allen.
