Cecil E. Payne

Cecil E. Payne, 89, of Rapids City, Illinois, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at home.

Private graveside services will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Cecil was born July 29, 1928, in Bancroft, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Katherine (Offee) Payne. He married Lora Stephenson on May 5, 1950, in Cambridge, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked for Franks Foundry in Moline, retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed traveling, especially pursuing his love of the railroad and steam engines.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Lora; six children, Mary Ann (Jim Burnett) Payne of Carbondale, Illinois, Barbara Kelley of Colona, Ralph (Sharon Engebretson) Payne of Rock Island, Nancy Schultz of East Moline, Robert (Sandy) Payne of Hampton, and Thomas (Kim) Payne of Wisconsin; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
