Carole J. Smith

Carole J. Smith, 92, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. Katie Styrt officiating. A funeral luncheon will be held at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the service. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Milan, or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

The former Carole June Needham was born June 11, 1932, in Viola, Illinois, the daughter of Francis and Eva (Larimer) Needham. She married Charles “Duane” Smith on October 14, 1950, in Viola, Illinois. He died January 14, 2022.

She worked for Servus Rubber before dedicating herself to taking care of her family and raising her children. That dedication to family continued on as she loved nothing more than spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, camping, golfing, boating, snowmobiling, and going for walks outside and in the mall.

Carole is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mike Ducey of Moline, Linda and Al Frederiksen of Bettendorf, and Jeannie and Paul Taylor of Moline; nine grandchildren, Chrissy (Ryan) Dieckman, Mike (Stef) Ducey, Matt (Erika Copeland) Frederiksen, Ryan (Melissa) Frederiksen, Danielle (Caleb) Ott, Cassie Barham, John (Michelle Hames) Taylor, Michael Taylor, and Shelby Taylor; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Needham; brother-in-law, Marvin (Joyce) Smith; and her special friend, Carolyn Busetto. She was preceded in death by siblings, Frances Whittington, Lawrence Needham, Lewis Needham, Jean Wynn, Richard “Gail” Needham, Marcia Derby, and David Needham.
