Carol J. Mindrup, 55, of Moline, Illinois, long-time Moline teacher, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois, following a six-year struggle with breast cancer.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Kenneth L. Harris, Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Following cremation, entombment will be in Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Friends are invited to join the family at a gathering at Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, following the services.
The former Carol Jean Schuett was born November 4, 1950, in Moline, the daughter of John C. and Jane (King) Schuett. She graduated from Western Illinois University, Macomb, in 1972 with a BA degree in Education, and received her Masters Degree in 1999 from St. Xavier University, Chicago. She married Richard Mindrup in 1976.
Carol was an elementary teacher in the Moline School District #40 for 34 years. She taught at Grant Elementary School for 10 years, and was a first grade teacher at Franklin Elementary School for the past 24 years, retiring this year. She was a member of numerous professional teaching associations, and was named a Master Teacher by John Deere Harvester Works. She was a former Volunteer of the Year for the Quad City Marathon. Carol loved to cook and worked with Diane DeBord Catering for several years. In her spare time, she was an avid reader, but her life was teaching, both at school and home. She was a good friend to many, who considered her a strong, inspiring and courageous woman, and who loved her sense of humor.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Kathryn K. Mindrup, and her brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Debra Schuett, all of Moline.
