Carl Holst

Carl M. Holst, 78, of Milan, Illinois, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, where he was a member. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or Trinity Lutheran Church.
Carl Martin Holst was born October 24, 1928, in Dekalb, Illinois, the son of Emmett Sr. and Mary (Larson) Holst. He married Hazel Mohr on September 19, 1953. He worked for Swiss Valley as a Route Delivery Driver for over 35 years, retiring in 1990.
He served in the Army most notably for the 838th Signal Radio Relay Company, from which he maintained many strong friendships over the years.
Carl was a member of the Teamsters local 371 in Milan. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially bowling, fishing, hunting, the Cubs, and the Bears. He loved playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He will most be remembered for his story telling ability and quick wit.
Carl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hazel; a daughter, Debra Schirman of Tipton, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Victoria Holst of Moline; granddaughters, Briahna Holst, and Erin Kelly and her husband, Kevin; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lilly Kelly; a brother and sister-in-law, Emmett Jr. and Beverly Holst of Davenport, Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Stan Fick of Port Byron, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Barbara Holst; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Victor Holst, and a brother, Raymond Holst.
