Calvin L. Peters, 97, of East Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in his home.
Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans
Calvin Lewis Peters was born April 10, 1924, in Belton, Arkansas, to James Alfred and Zettie (Dotson) Peters. He graduated from Blevins High School, Blevins, Arkansas, and from Henderson State Teachers College, Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was in the US Army serving with McArthur in the far East during WW II and earning five battle stars. He then served in the Army Reserves for 20 years, retiring as Captain in 1968. He married Nancy Jean McAdams on August 4, 1950, in Nashville, Arkansas. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 32 years, retiring in 1980.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Moline, for 47 years, and was very active in the Masonic Fraternity, as a 61-year member of Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, and a member of Moline Lodge #1014, AF & AM, Silvis Lodge #898, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline, Kaaba Shrine, Davenport, and Moline Hi-12 Club. He was also a life member of Reserve Officers Association, VFW Post #2056, and American Legion Post #227.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William C. and Donna Marie Peters of Southaven, Mississippi, and James H. Peters of East Moline; and his brother, J. Dale Peters of Nashville.
