Charles C. ?Chuck? Leptien, 71, of Rock Island, Illinois, a retired Navy Chief Warrant Officer, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis.
Charles Claude Leptien was born January 10, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Charles H. and Florence McKenzie Leptien. He entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, served two tours in Vietnam, and retired as Chief Warrant Officer in 1979. He married Diana Pippenger Edgcomb on November 22, 1985, in Davenport. He and his wife owned and operated Metro Cab of the Quad Cities from 1987 to 2001.
He was a member of Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed country drives, computers and the internet, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Diana; four children and their spouses, John and Jennifer Leptien of Ames, Iowa, Sierra and John Anthony of New Boston, Illinois, James Edgcomb of Florida, and Robert and Stacey Edgcomb of Erie, Illinois; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Tom Raisbeck of Davenport. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Dewitt, and a brother Richard Leptien.
