David C. Gibson, 70, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island, with The Reverends Marjolein and Steve Anderson and The Reverend Ryan Sutton, his nephew, officiating. Entombment is in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Sanctuary Choir or the Memorial Trust Fund at the church.
David Charles Gibson was born June 7, 1940, in Muncie, Indiana, the only child of Wilbur E. and Martha Gibson. He graduated from MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Illinois, and received his Masters Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. He married Avalon Marcum on June 28, 1975, in Rock Island.
Dave was employed by Deere and Company for 35 years in many areas of Human Resources. He retired on December 31, 2001, as Manager of Human Resources Information Systems. As John Deere?s Continuing Education Coordinator, he was instrumental in the founding of the Quad City Graduate Center, and served as Secretary of the Center?s Governing Board for 29 years.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, now Two Rivers United Methodist Church, where he served several terms on the Board of Trustees and sang in the Sanctuary Choir for 44 years. He was a member of both the Alumni Board and the Board of Trustees of MacMurray College, and was a member of Kappa Phi Fraternity at Indiana University. He enjoyed stained glass, photography, the Quad City Symphony, singing, traveling, chocolate, and spending summers at Lake Geneva.
Dave is survived by his wife, Avalon; an aunt, Wanda Gibson of Dayton, Ohio; a cousin, Marilyn Wagner and her husband Dick of Knox, Indiana; a sister-in-law and her husband, Carole and Charles Sutton of Chana, Illinois; a brother-in-law and his wife, Curtis and Nelda Marcum of LaMoille, Illinois; a niece, Jessica Marcum; three nephews, Matthew Marcum, and Ryan and Daniel Sutton; and a God-daughter, Anne Faust.
