C. Duane Smith, 90, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, January 14, 2022, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services are 11 a.m.. Tuesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. Katie Styrt officiating. A funeral luncheon will be held at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the service. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday. The family requests mask be worn. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Milan, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Charles Duane Smith was born June 11, 1931, in rural Mercer County, Illinois, to Charles Todd and Merle Gertrude (Williams) Smith. He married Carole J. Needham on October 14, 1950, in Viola, Illinois. He was a salesman for DEWCO from 1968 until retiring in 1994. He previously owned Duane’s Skelly Service Station in downtown Rock Island. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan, and the Masonic Lodge in Rock Island. His hobby was “fast.” He enjoyed racing, NASCAR, snowmobiling, boating, waterskiing, fishing and camping.

Duane is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carole; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mike Ducey of Moline, Linda and Al Frederiksen of Bettendorf, and Jeannie and Paul Taylor of Moline; nine grandchildren and spouses, Chrissy and Ryan Dieckman, Mike and Stef Ducey, Matt Frederiksen and fiancée Ashley Heaton, Ryan and Melissa Frederiksen, Danielle and Caleb Ott, Cassie Barham, John Taylor, Michael Taylor, and Shelby Taylor; 17 great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Joyce Smith. He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert, Thomas, and Kathryn Jean Smith.
