Cecil M. Kilgard, 98, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Salem Lutheran Church, 1724 15th Street, Moline, Illinois, with The Reverend Randy Willers officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is one hour before the services at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
Cecil Martin Kilgard was born January 12, 1913, near Albany, Illinois, the son of Martin and Cecelia Miller Kilgard. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, in 1931. He married Shirley Wheeler on January 30, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois. He was an inspector for John Deere Plow Works, Moline, for 36 years, retiring in 1973. He was a former Deacon of Salem Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, Moline, and Moline Chapter #258, Order of Eastern Star; and a member of Thor Lodge of Vikings, and Wheel-Steppers and Golden Squares square dance clubs. He enjoyed playing golf.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stevan and Elizabeth Kilgard of Independence, and Clark and Janyce Kilgard of Sunrise, Florida; five grandchildren and their spouses, Luke and Marcia Kilgard, Ellen and Kyle Chesnut, Grant Kilgard, Wayne Kilgard, and Celia Kilgard; and seven great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kathryn and Landon Kilgard, Morgan Chesnut, and Grant, Evan and Olivia Kilgard. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, six sisters, and four brothers.
