Bruce L. Buchholz, 73, of Colona, Illinois, died Saturday, June 6, 2019, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church, 706 1st Street, Coal Valley, Illinois, with the Rev. John Sedgwick officiating. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion, Illinois. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, 1700 1st Street, Coal Valley, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease research.
Bruce Leonard Buchholz was born November 5, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, to John Leonard and Burnilda Maxine (Foor) Buchholz, He graduated from Moline High School, Black Hawk College, and the University of Illinois. He married Susan Cunningham and later married Michele Marie Samier on July 20, 1980, in Port Byron. He taught industrial arts at New Trier High School, Skokie, and Moline High School, and later worked at International Harvester Farmall and Harvester plants. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a welding engineer in 2010, after 25 years. He was a member of the American Welding Society and a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo. He enjoyed woodworking, anything mechanical, inventing, classical music, and watching comedy shows with his family.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Michele; two children, David Buchholz of New Braunfels, Texas, and Emily Buchholz (Felix) of Colona; four grandchildren, Bali Buchholz, Lily Gerth, Mason Buchholz, and Xander Lopez; siblings and spouses, Sandra and Richard Perry of Moline, and Phillip and Jayna Buchholz of Coal Valley; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pat Heilwagner.
