Brian L. Swales

Brian Lee Swales of Palm Springs, CA passed from this world into eternal life on July 9, 2021 with his sister, Deanna, by his side. Brian was born in Moline, IL on November 8th, 1959 and was lovingly raised by his parents, Bart and Kay Swales. He spent most of his adolescence years in Coal Valley.

At an early age he was fascinated with politics and enjoyed working at the local Democratic campaign headquarters. The highlight of his life was a trip to Washington DC to attend the presidential inauguration of Jimmy Carter.

Brian lived in Milwaukee for many years before fulfilling his dream with a move to California in 1994. It was there where he worked for the United States Postal Service and retired in 2019.

Brian had many interests in life, but his passion was abstract art. He enjoyed various forms and created novelty art items in his home studio.

He was a kindhearted and generous person with a strong faith who helped others in need of aid or friendship. Often his friends or family would receive a surprise package in the mail from him or a phone call to catch up. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving is his mother, Kay, sisters Deanna Hansen and Julie (Craig) Lothson and brother Jim (Pam) Swales along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Bart, maternal grandparents Lawrence and Veve Quante, Rose Phelps and paternal grandmother Dorothy Swales, aunts, uncles and cousin.

A service for Brian will be held on Saturday, August 7th at Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline at 2 pm with visitation an hour prior to service. Memorials can be made to the church.
