Bobby Eugene Showens died on Jan. 12, 2021, at the age of 56, in his home in DeWitt, after a battle with kidney failure. There will be no funeral service as a request from Bobby but a memorial luncheon in his honor later on in the spring.
Bobby was born in Iowa City to Arthur and Sharon (Goben) Showens. He worked all throughout his life starting as a dishwasher at Harlan’s in Davenport to NM Transfer in Eldridge driving Semi. He married his wife, Kathy (Jones) on July 3rd, 1989.
He loved working and driving truck and enjoyed listening to books on tape each night as he drove. You could find him sitting in his favorite chair, doodling with his son, watching birds from his living room window, or learning about something new on television. Cars and trucks were a big part of his life and he loved passing that passion onto his grandson. They would sit and play for hours, which he treasured. Those who spent time with Bobby say he was a kind and compassionate person who will be missed deeply.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Kathy Showens. Kids, John Showens of DeWitt and Ashley (Rory) Paulsen of Welton. Siblings, Michael Showens of Cottonwood, Arizona and Arthur Jr Showens of Lenox, Iowa. Mother- and father-in-law, Robert (Carolyn) Jones in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Aunt and uncle, Kay (Larry) Showens of Davenport. His beloved grandkids are Braylan and Addilyn Paulsen of Welton. Brothers-in-law, Robert Jones of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Keith (Audrey) Jones of Plainfield, Illinois.
Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Pamela Showens.
Condolences and donations can be sent to his wife and son, Kathy and John Showens at 303 8th Street, DeWitt, IA 52742 or Ashley Paulsen at PO Box 49, Welton, IA 52774.
