Billy J. Slayden

Billy Slayden, 82, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in his home in East Moline, Illinois.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services.

Billy Joe Slayden was born March 11, 1931, in La Center, Kentucky, the son of Kerry and Kate Slayden. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and married Melva Louise Horn on July 16, 1953, in Angola, Indiana. She died June 26, 2002. He was employed at Wal-Mart for 17 years, retiring this year, and previously worked at John Deere. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Billy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Donald Glaspie of Waterloo, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie Slayden of Austin, Texas, Doug and Mary Jo Slayden of Moline, Illinois, and Betty Slayden of Omaha, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ronnie Slayden of Bunker Hill, Illinois, and Kenny Slayden and D. P. Slayden of Wood River, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva; sons, Jeff Slayden and Greg Slayden; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Slayden.
