Betty E. Johnson, 90, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, April 11, 2019, in Moline.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, with Dr. Mark Gehrke officiating. Visitation is one hour before the services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Genesis Hospice. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
Betty Elaine McCall was born June 30, 1928, in Rock Island, Illinois, to James and Margaret (VanHoecke) McCall. She married Robert W. Purcell in 1946. She later married Dorance Johnson in 1988, in Davenport. She was secretary and bookkeeper for UAW Local 1309 at the Farmall Plant for 28 years, retiring in 1985. She was also a self-employed beautician for many years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, and Clara Lodge of Vikings and the longtime volunteer time keeper and record keeper for Midwest Hill Climbing Association. She enjoyed genealogy, flowers, hummingbirds, and traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy. She was a determined. feisty, and hardworking woman who held two jobs for many years, and was caregiver to her entire family.
Betty is survived by her husband, Dorance; two children and spouses, Marsha and Fernie Mesa of Bend, Oregon, and Michael and Patricia Purcell of Crest Hill, Illinois; four step-children and spouses, Janice and Greg Golz of Rock Island, Georgette and Dave Dacon of Bettendorf, Marilyn and Mike King of Murrieta, California, and Darryl and Kelly Johnson of Moline; five grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; siblings, David McCall of Moline and Cynthia (Jim) Jordan of Santee, California; and sisters-in-law, Marty Johnson of Woodhull and Shirley (Jack) Miller of Sumter, South Carolina; and several special nieces and nephews.
