Bertha Hoffman, 85, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, October 30, 2009, in Amber Ridge Memory Care Center, Moline.
Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Monday at Rock Island National Cemtery. Visitation is one hour prior to services at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, where those wishing to go to the cemetery should meet the family before 11:15 a.m. The Reverend Douglas Schoonover will officiate. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Association.
Bertha Josephine Hoffman was born December 28, 1923, in LaSalle, Illinois, the daughter of Egidy and Josephine (Jamsek) Hauptman. She married Wayne Hoffman on January 2, 1944, in LaSalle. He died October 24, 2009.
During World War II, she worked in the Green River Ordinance Plant loading bazooka shells with explosives. She then worked for The May Company in Moline, and John Deere. She worked for Augustana College as a member of the support team and secretary to the Director of the College Center.
Bertha was a life member of PTA and worked in scouting as Den Mother of Troup 304 for six years. She enjoyed gardening and nature, sewing, and knitting. She loved being a homemaker and was the absolute best dessert chef.
?Mo? will be sadly missed by sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Mary Hoffman of Santa Barbara, California, Dale and Teresa Hoffman of Moline, and Scott and Sandra Hoffman of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren, Christopher, Matt, and Andy Hoffman, all of California, and Brandt, Bryce, and especially Brady Hoffman, all of Moline; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband of 65 years, Wayne, sisters, Emma Folty and Sue Quercia Grossa, and brothers, Adolf, Emil, Joseph, and Victor Hoffman.
