Bernice C. Srail, 93, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, April 6, 2015, in Trinity Center at Luther Park, Des Moines, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Anglican Church, 1717 8th Avenue, Moline, with The Reverend Canon Edward den Blaauwen, SSC, officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the church or Rock Island County Humane Society. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
The former Thelma Bernice Cronk was born on September 16, 1921, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Joseph U. and Ella C. (Anderson) Cronk. After her parents' deaths, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Wenona and Stephen Belden. She graduated from Moline High School in 1939, and the former Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in 1942, and worked in the OB Department at the former Lutheran Hospital. She served in the U. S. Army Nurses Corps for three years, attaining the rank of Captain, and served with the 65th Field Hospital which saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. She married James John Srail, MD, on August 3, 1947, at Christ Church in Moline, and also worked in her husband's medical office. Dr. Srail died June 4, 2011.
Bernice was a longtime, active member of Christ Church, where she previously served on the Vestry, Altar Guild, and E.C.W. She was a past board member of the Cleveland King's Daughters Home, and a former member of Katherine Walther Circle of King's Daughters, Chapter BL of P.E.O Sisterhood, Lutheran Hospital Alumni Association, Rock Island County Medical Auxiliary, and the Rock Island County Humane Society.
Bernice is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Deanna Srail, and three grandchildren, Katherine, Julie, and Ryan Srail, all of Johnston, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Charles Roberts; and siblings and spouses, Blair and Gladys Cronk, Vivian and Herb Hetrick, and Thais and Howard Robson..
