Bernard M. “Bernie” McCance, 82, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, April 10, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the Vietnam Veterans of the Quad Cities will present military honors. Memorials may be made to Bushnell VFW Post #1422.
Bernard Miles McCance was born May 24, 1942, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Claude and Lulu (Gamble) McCance, Jr. He was proud to be a Vietnam Veteran, serving two years in the U.S. Army and then two additional years in the U.S. Navy.
He married the love of his life, Mary Lou Walters, on July 3, 1971, in Moline. He worked over 30 years as a press operator at Case I.H. in East Moline, retiring in 2001.
He was a founding member of the QC Jeep Jammers, and also belonged to the Quad Cities Cruisers Auto Club and Bushnell VFW Post #1422. He enjoyed cars, camping, fishing and traveling. He also loved taking care of his yard and making sure it was meticulously maintained, collecting trains, and in his younger years he was a talented drawer.
Bernie is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Mary Lou; his children, Kimberly (William) DiGilio of St. Francis, Wisconsin, Michael (Jennifer Jones) McCance of Rock Island, and Karen (Katie) McCance of Cordova, Illinois; grandchildren, Jennifer (Theodore) Yeo, Ethan McCance, Jason (Paige) Buzard, and Joshua (Jaylyn) Buzard; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Winston, Decker, Preston and Kennedy; and his brother-in-law, Robert Walters of Bettendorf, Iowa, and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
