Benno Faranda, 82, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, March 18, 2013, in his daughter?s home in Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Association or the family.
Benno was born August 22, 1930, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Anthony and Martha Zunk Faranda. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Ella Mae France and they were later divorced. He then married Shirley Schmidt, who preceded him in death. He was a mold maker at the John Deere Foundry and retired from the John Deere Parts Warehouse. He was a lifetime member of Friend?s Circle Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #956, Rock Island, and Rock Island Boat Club, and a member of Moline American Legion Post #246, Rock Island Conservation Club, Moline Viking Lodge, Rock Island Moose Lodge #190, Svithiod Club of Moline, and East End Social Club, Moline.
Ben is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Hal Freeman of Davenport; grandchildren, Jennifer Simpson and her husband Ricky, and Jeremy Freeman; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Scherer of Davenport. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and a half-sister.
