Barbara J. Korty, 83, of Glasford, Illinois, died at 4:22 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. 2005, at Glasford United Methodist Church, with The Reverend Walter Wilkins officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to services. Memorials may be made to her church or to Glasford Senior Citizens Center. Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.
The former Barara Jean Wilhelmy was born November 15, 1921, in Decatur, Illinois, to Dr. Orville and Opal (Miller) Wilhelmy. She married Marvin R. Korty on August 3, 1947, in Decatur. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1999.
Mrs. Korty acquired her teaching degree at Millikin University and taught school for 30 years, last teaching at Illini Bluffs, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Phillipine Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 413, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary 35 Unit. She was a Timber Township trustee for 24 years, was part of the group who began the Senior Citizens Center in Glasford, and was a member of the Glasford United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Keith Korty of Clearwater, Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Mike Keenan of Bradenton, Florida, and Judy and Jerry Smith of Glasford; four grandchildren. Damin and Alicia Keenan, and Tiffany and Christina Smith; and a sister, Dorothy Trimble of Moline, Illinois.
