Barbara J. Hanes, 71, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at home.
A hospitality gathering will be held at CityView Celebrations on the lower level of Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, on Thursday, May 2nd from 4 to 6 p.m. with a time of sharing immediately following. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
The former Barbara Brown was born June 12, 1947, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Maxine E. Wyatt. She graduated with her bachelor's degree from University of Illinois in1969. She was a G.E.D. instructor at Scott Community College, retiring in 2010. Prior to that, she worked for Blackhawk College for 20 years.
She was an avid reader, belonging to the book club of the month for the last 30 years. She was also a great seamstress with a passion for fashion (everything MUST match). She was very creative and talented, making dresses, curtains, outfits for everyone, re-upholsters, and designs.
Barbara is survived by two children, Aaron (Hollie) Hanes of Moline, and Alisha (Marvin) Hanes-Tucker of Rock Island; grandchildren, Anjelle Aldridge, Aviannce, Katia, Kataya, and Arianna Harvey, Zoe Johnson, and Aalayla Hanes; four Great-Grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Colbert (Latrenda) Dixon, Jr. of Moline; and nieces, Colette (Bill) Demonte, Tierra (Maurice) Sullivan, Tamera Dixon, and Chloe Dixon, and her beloved dog Herk. She was preceded in death by her parents.
