Russell Wince, 91, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at his daughter?s home in Moline, Illinois, surrounded by his family.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. The Reverend Bill Sandoval of House of the Lord Church in East Moline, and The Reverend Drew Nagle of Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church in Rock Island will officiate. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, with whom Russell was schedule to travel to Washington D.C. in September.
Russell Bernard Wince was born December 13, 1918, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of George Bernard and Lillian (Utley) Wince. He married Zada Gotthardt on November 18, 1961. She died November 28, 2006. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the Asiatic, Pacific area for two years and participating in action against the enemy at Saipan, Narianas Islands, and Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands.
He worked for International Harvester in East Moline for over 23 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and cheering on their sporting events, especially the mens softball teams.
Russell is survived by children, Julie (Jim) Krause of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jim (Judy) Wince, Sr., Rebecca (Greg) Boswell, and Terry (Julie) Wince, all of Moline; step-children, Bernard (Becky) Pearson, Jr. of Silvis, Illinois, Peggy (Morry) Tollenaer of Titusville, Florida, Patricia (Bill) Sandoval of East Moline, Jack (Marietta) Pearson of LaVergne, Tennessee, and Steven (Kay) Pearson, Sr. and Mark Scott, Sr., all of Moline; seven grandchildren; 22 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a step-grandson, Kenny Tollenaer, two sisters, and one brother.
