Leonora B. (Norge) Lorimer, 100, of East Moline, Illinois, died Monday, May 28, 2007, in Pathway Hospice at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa.
The former Leonora Bramley was born in Kent, England, on March 12, 1907, one of five children of Thomas and Ethel (Pridmore) Bramley. She emigrated from Great Britain ¬to work in the Detroit, Michigan, area in 1926. She married Robert E. Lorimer in 1931, and they lived in Lake Angelus, Michigan, where they were avid sailors, ice-boaters and skiers. They had two children, Robin and David. In 1946 they relocated to the Quad Cities because of Bob's work, eventual1y settling in Port Byron in a home they restored. Bob died in 1980.
Norge was proud to be one of a group that established the first hot lunch program in the Port Byron Grade School. She volunteered many hours with the Red Cross, the Moline Public Hospital Auxiliary, and the Garden Club in Port Byron planting and maintaining flower pots in the downtown area. She loved her family immensely and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved afternoon tea, playing mah-jongg, and an occasional glass of champagne.
Most recently she was a resident at Angelus Retirement Community at North Hill with many resident and care-giver friends. She celebrated her 100th birthday in March with many of her family present.
A private family memorial service will be held. Memorials may be made to Quad City Symphony Orchestra Association or Leader Dogs for the Blind. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
