Marjorie was born to Bertha (Bodholt) Lund and John Lund February 4, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the sister of beloved Richard Lund and Dorothy (Lund) Jordal. Marge, the youngest in her class, was valedictorian at West Waterloo High School. She also excelled in student government and as concertmistress in the orchestra. Marge was a Pi Beta Phi and member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at Iowa State University, where she also served as an editor of its creative writing magazine.
On June 19, 1948, Marge married George L. Friedl, her childhood sweetheart, after he returned to Waterloo from serving in World War II. Through the years they lived with their two daughters in Des Moines, Iowa, Monterrey, Mexico, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Moline.
Marge was a leader in various community organizations, including the Des Moines League of Women Voters, the Davenport Museum of Art, and Visiting Nurses and Homemakers. She was a proud member of P.E.O. and King?s Daughters. She was a great cook and seamstress. Though not particularly adept at the sport, Marge loved tennis because she could share that time with George. She also enjoyed reading, painting, and traveling with friends and family. Her later years were spent doting on her grandchildren.
Marge is survived by her two daughters and their families: Marcia Friedl Smith, husband Todd Smith, and children Benjamin Allen and Grace Marie Smith of Chicago; and Margy Ehmann, husband Dr. W. Christopher Ehmann, and son W. Gage Ehmann of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
