Audrey S. Mabis

Audrey S. Mabis was born on February 11, 1930 to Lennie Tate Mabis and Audrey Mabis Sr. in Kirksville, MO. 

He died peacefully of natural causes on May 1, 2021 at his home in Hampton, IL where he has lived since 1965. Audrey married Lorraine Paterson, originally from Davenport, IA on August 30, 1950. She preceded him in death in 1993.

Audrey is survived by his son, Bruce Mabis, Rock Island, IL his daughter, Rhea (Erik) Sloneker, Danvers, IL four grandchildren, Rebecca Mabis, Kurt (Janelle) Conner, Ellie (Zach) Atkins, Evan Sloneker, and four great grandchildren, Nate, Jack, Joseph and Juniper. He is also survived by his brothers Eldon and Bliss (Jean) Mabis, and his sister Lois Bryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Mabis.

Audrey spent his childhood on his parent’s farm in Kirksville, MO. He joined the army reserves when he became of age and was an active member for many years. Audrey moved to the Quad Cities in 1949 to go to work for Deere and Co. and there met his wife Lorraine in 1950. Audrey worked for over 30 years at John Deere Plow Planter Works and JD Tech Center, Moline, IL.

Audrey was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed using his tremendous mechanical skills to build go-carts and bicycles for his kids. He was an active participant in their lives, often travelling hours to attend sporting events and recitals. He was a kind and generous soul who will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Memorials can be made to Janes’ Place, 1035 W. Kimberly Rd., Davenport, IA 52806. A celebration of life is May 29, 2021 at Stephens Park small playground shelter, Moline, from Noon to 2PM.
