Reverend Audley M. Bruce, 85, of East Moline, Illinois, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 3020 30th Street, Rock Island, Illinois with The Reverend Janet Waychoff officiating. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Rock Island, where he was a member, or Christian Care Center, Rock Island.
Audley McMichael Bruce was born April 22, 1927, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of Audley M. and Helen Carlson Bruce. He married Catherine V. Kinnee on May 29, 1948, in First Baptist Church, Lincoln Park, Michigan. She preceded him in death on December 15, 1994.
Audley Bruce was a graduate of Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana, and earned his Masters of Divinity Degree from Northern Baptist Seminary, Oak Brook, Illinois. He served as pastor at Crainville Baptist Church, Carterville, Illinois, First Baptist Church, Canton, Illinois, and First Baptist Church, Moline. The last 20 years of his career he was an Area Minister of Northern Illinois for the American Baptist Churches of the Great Rivers Region. Following his retirement he served six churches in Michigan, Illinois and Iowa as an interim pastor. He also preached at many different churches on Sundays filling in for pastors while they were gone. During his ministry he traveled through out the world extensively visiting the overseas missions of the American Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Tim and Karen Bruce of Rock Island, Cathy and Jeff Layman of Suttons Bay, Michigan, and John Bruce of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jay Bruce, Derek Bruce, Sarah and Bryon Schultz, Rachel and Billy Johnson, Andrea and Tom Ormes, and Jamie and Wes Koons; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his oldest son Paul in 1986, his parents, and his only brother, Howard Bruce.
