Arden V. Santel, 86, of Moline, Illinois, and Bradenton, Florida, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, in Blake Medical Center, Bradenton.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Veterans Funeral Care, Clearwater, assisted the family in Bradenton.
Arden Vern Santel was born June 26, 1919, in Washinton, Iowa, the son of August and Elsie (Rada) Santel. He married Helen Nelson Ryan on February 9, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WW II and received the Purple Heart for being wounded on Iwo Jima. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 40 years, retiring as Industrial Specialist in 1978.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #246, Moline, Arsenal Employees Golf Club, AARP, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He loved to golf.
Arden is survived by his wife, Helen; a step-daughter and her husband, Nancy and Fred Sorrento of Naples, Florida; two grandchildren, Fred Sorrento Jr. and Dawn Ahearn and her husband Larry; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Luke, and Emma Ahearn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eldiene Morrison.
