Amparo "Ampie" Caras, 81, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed on April 27, 2017, in Ada, Oklahoma.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the family.
The former Amparo Benjamin Chua was born on March 29, 1936, in Capiz, Philippines, on the island of Panay, the daughter of Consolacion Benjamin and Siya Chua. In 1954, she married Ernie Y. Caras Sr. in the Philippines and together with their 8 children, they migrated to the U.S. in 1967.
Ampie was a gifted seamstress who once owned her own small business in Moline called "Ampie's Mending Shop." Ampie enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, cooking, and going to casinos.
Survivors include sons, Ed (Ofelia) Caras of Stockton, California, Ernie Jr. (Kelly) Caras of Moline, Napol (Alma) Caras of Viola, and Mike Caras of Ada, Oklahoma; daughters, Maria (Sam) Till of Moline, Florence (Greg) Bryan of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lisa (Scott) Appelquist of Orlando, Florida, and Arcie McCabe of Daytona, Florida; a sister, Remy in Guam; a brother, Bebe in the Philippines; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernie Caras Sr.; a brother, Rudy; a sister, Rosaling; and a granddaughter, Hadassah.
