Alva H. Caulkins, 85, of Andalusia, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at Autumn Meadows of Cahokia, Cahokia, Illinois.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Immediately following burial, the family host a luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe.
Alva was born September 25, 1933, in Topeka, Illinois, the son of Alva Franklin and Verla Ruth (Stuart) Caulkins. He served four years in the U.S. Navy before marrying Virginia Reiber on September 1, 1957. The couple had three children and remained married to Virginia until 2002.
He worked many years as a personal property caretaker for William and Tish Hewitt (John Deere), Rock Island County Building Inspector, and retired from the Illinois Carpenter's Union.
Alva loved hunting, fishing, and carved many beautiful wooden items. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Reynolds American Legion Post #1166.
He is survived by three children, Diane Caulkins, Brian Caulkins, and Rebecca (John) Whitten; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his ex-wife, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and seven brothers.
