Viola, Illinois Alice P. Unsworth, 104, of Viola, died Thursday, August 23, 2001, at Lynncrest Manor of Aledo. Graveside Services will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Aledo. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 PM at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sugar Grove Cemetery Association. The former Alice Perlina McGaughy was born on March 15, 1897 in Greene Township, Mercer County, Illinois, to Henry Holt and Frances Alice (Huddleston) McGaughy. She married Thomas Mackey Unsworth on September 12, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1993. Alice was a 1917 graduate of Aledo High School. She attended William and Vashti for one year and received her teachers certificate from Western Illinois State Teachers College. Alice taught in one room schools in Mercer County for 15 years, retiring in 1949. Alice was a dedicated member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church, of which she was Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Director. Alice is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George T. and Evelyn Unsworth of Aledo; a sister, Florence Darst of Eureka, IL; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Thomas and Priscilla Unsworth of Superior, AZ, Alicia and Joe Hammond of Alpha, Bill and Diane Unsworth of Aledo and Carolyn and Joe Enright of Buffalo Prairie. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Julia Moore and Anna Cook; brothers, James and Alex McGaughy and a granddaughter, Melody DuVerney.
