Alice “Norene” McFarland, 90, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at home, under the care of her son Tim, after a courageous battle with dementia.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The former Alice Norene Garmon was born August 24, 1932, in Bunch, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dennis and Mable (Sloan) Garmon. She graduated from Bloomfield High School, class of 1951.
Norene went on to run McFarland’s Café, worked at Woolworth’s, Maid-Rite, Easter’s, and in her later years was an independent house cleaner.
She was a 50-year member of Davis Street Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. She enjoyed word searches, watching Wheel of Fortune, taking walks, sending cards to people, spending time with family, and was very compassionate and caring towards others. She will be remembered for a big heart, a kind soul, and amazing perseverance and determination.
Norene is survived by her sons, Randy (Joan) McFarland, Rick (Peggy) McFarland, and Tim McFarland; her grandchildren, Kara, Taren, Joshua, and Stefanie; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Randolph. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Debbie McFarland; four sisters, Ruth, Edythe, Lois, and Lanore; and a brother, Richard
