Nedra Swift, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, in Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas. She was 94 years young.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Christ Church Cathedral, 1717 8th Avenue Moline. Visitation is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Moline Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to the American Red Cross. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
Nedra Alden Grover was born May 4, 1915, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Harry Lovejoy and Minnie (Alden) Grover. She married Wesley K. Swift on June 15, 1934, in New York City. He died July 19, 1987.
A long-time resident of Moline, Nedra was very active in her church and community. She worked with the Census Bureau for more than 30 years and received the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services? Bronze Medal for outstanding service. Descended from John Alden of the Mayflower, she was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Nedra will be remembered for many reasons?especially her spirit of adventure. She volunteered through the American Red Cross to help those struck by disaster in numerous places including Puerto Rico, New Orleans, and New York after 9/11. She loved to travel, exploring new cultures and meeting new people. She loved birds, crossword puzzles, duplicate bridge, and games of all sorts. But most of all, she loved her family.
Nedra is survived by her children and their spouses, George and Debra Swift of Moline, Carole and Jack Ferry of Moline, and Laurie and Tom Connely of Roanoke, Texas; grandchildren and their spouses, Jean Swift and David Hamod, Beth Reinhardt, Christine and Kent Hoskin, Kurt and Kathy Ferry, Karen Ferry and her fiancé, Michael Droste, Carolyn and Hugh Robinson, John and Kara Ferry, Michael and Jen Connely, and Patrick Connely; and great-grandchildren, Evan Hamod, Daniel Reinhardt, Jimmy Reinhardt, Ryan and Taylor Bunch, Sheena and Josh Cannon, Alyson Ferry, William Ferry, Adam Robinson, Matthew Robinson, Jackson Ferry, Ethan Ferry, Austin Connely, and Braydon Connely. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley K. Swift.
